Releasing the Pain of Being Someone’s Escape

One of the deepest heartbreaks is discovering that someone you believed loved you deeply may have been using the relationship to fill an emptiness within themselves, avoid confronting old wounds, or postpone the healing they were never ready to face.

The pain comes not only from losing the person, but from questioning what was real. You grieve the future you imagined, the love you believed you shared, and the time and pieces of yourself you gave while hoping that love would grow into something healthy and lasting.

But their inability to face themselves was never a reflection of your worth. You were not responsible for filling their void, repairing their wounds, or loving them into becoming someone they were unwilling to become on their own.

The healing begins when you release the responsibility you never should have carried. Release the need to understand every contradiction, prove that your love was genuine, or wait for them to recognize what they lost. You can honor what you felt without continuing to participate in what hurt you.

Sometimes, the person we loved was seeking refuge in us rather than learning how to find peace within themselves. Recognizing this does not mean every moment was false. It means love alone could not resolve what remained unhealed.

Let yourself grieve without turning your pain into bitterness. Take back your energy, rebuild your trust in your own discernment, and allow the experience to teach you what mutual, emotionally available love must look like.

You were not put here to be someone’s distraction from their own healing. You deserve a love that meets you with honesty, responsibility, consistency, and the willingness to grow.

You can release the person without rejecting the love you gave. That love was yours. The lesson is learning to offer it without abandoning yourself.

Even though it know I will always be naive and unwilling to conform in his eyes and I am at peace with it now.

After his new life shows the same negative results he will begin his healing journey.

I release him with love and no judgment for where he is on his journey. And I will always remember I had a part in initiating his healing process to begin.

Grateful for the opportunity and the past is now behind me.
