The Indigo Child
Understanding the idea of the highly intuitive, sensitive, and unconventional soul
The concept of the Indigo Child emerged from the New Age movement in the late 20th century. It describes children who are believed to possess unusually strong intuition, sensitivity, creativity, independence, and a deep sense that they are here for a meaningful purpose. The term “indigo” comes from the belief that these individuals have an indigo-colored aura or energetic field.
Indigo Children are often described as highly perceptive people who notice things others overlook. They may be sensitive to the emotions and energy of people around them, uncomfortable with dishonesty or hypocrisy, and naturally drawn toward questioning authority. Some descriptions portray them as children who resist rigid systems because they instinctively want to understand the why behind the rules rather than simply follow them. They are sometimes characterized as creative, compassionate, strong-willed, and unusually aware of injustice.
