Less should. More soul. Zero interest in impressing the imaginary committee.
Let’s talk about the things we’re supposedly supposed to want.
The house. The status. The perfect partner. The impressive career. The endless upgrades. The life that makes everyone say, “Wow, you’ve really made it!”
Made it where, exactly? And who’s handing out the trophies?
Somewhere along the way, we inherited a shopping list for success. Work harder. Earn more. Buy better. Keep up. Prove yourself.
And suddenly, we’re so busy building a life that looks good on paper that we forget to ask: Does this actually feel good to live?
When Your Inner Freek Wakes Up
There comes a moment when the old script starts losing its sparkle. The approval feels less important. The possessions become just things. The milestones don’t deliver the magic we expected.
Instead, we start yearning for things that don’t come with a price tag.
Peace. Freedom. Meaningful connections. Creative adventures. Mornings that belong to us. Time to sit beneath a tree without feeling guilty about being unproductive.
Perhaps the life we’ve been chasing was assembled from family expectations, cultural conditioning, and the desire to prove we’re worthy.
Maybe our deepest yearning has simply been waiting for us to turn down the noise.
Your Soul Has A Different Wishlist
Wanting can come from comparison, insecurity, and the belief that the next shiny thing will finally make us enough.
Yearning feels different. It’s that quiet pull toward a life that feels more honest—even when it makes absolutely no sense on paper.
Maybe you want to create instead of consume. Explore instead of accumulate. Choose peace over approval. Or follow a wild little idea that makes your sensible friends raise their eyebrows.
How delightfully inconvenient.
Spirituality doesn’t mean rejecting the material world. Money can create freedom. Beauty can bring joy. Luxury can be enjoyed.
But there’s a difference between enjoying beautiful things and needing beautiful things to prove your life is beautiful.
Are your possessions supporting your freedom—or are you sacrificing your freedom to acquire them?
Now that’s a question worth sitting with.
A Different Kind Of Rich
What if success meant having the freedom to say no?
Choosing the smaller home because it gives you more breathing room. Leaving the relationship that looks fantastic on paper but feels terrible in your body. Changing careers because curiosity is calling.
What if luxury meant a peaceful mind, meaningful work, nourishing relationships, and the freedom to spend your time doing things that make you feel alive?
You don’t have to turn every passion into a business, every hobby into a side hustle, or every experience into social media content.
Some things can simply be yours.
No audience. No applause. No personal brand emerging from your pottery class.
Just you, having a life. What a concept!
You Can Be Spiritual And Still Like Nice Things
Let’s clear something up before the spiritual police arrive.
You don’t have to live in a hut or survive on three almonds and enlightenment to follow your soul.
You can love beauty, earn money, pursue ambitious dreams, and enjoy the good stuff. The invitation is simply to make choices that feel authentic rather than obligatory.
Notice when you’re doing something because you love it—and when you’re doing it because you’re afraid of what people might think if you don’t.
There’s a big difference between genuine desire and social homework.
And please, don’t replace material shoulds with spiritual shoulds. There’s no prize for being the most minimalist or enlightened person in the room.
The goal isn’t to want less. It’s to want what genuinely matters to you.
Less Should. More Soul.
Perhaps the real rebellion is refusing to let the world determine your worth.
You’re allowed to outgrow old ambitions, change direction, surprise yourself, and build a life that doesn’t fit anyone else’s blueprint.
So the next time you hear yourself say, I should want that, pause.
Ask yourself:
Do I actually want it, or have I simply been well-trained?
Would I still choose it if nobody could see me choosing it?
What would I do if I stopped trying to win a game I never agreed to play?
You might discover that you still want the big house, the exciting career, and the beautiful things. Wonderful. Enjoy them!
Or you might discover that your soul wants something entirely unexpected: a slower rhythm, a new adventure, more creativity, fewer performances, and a whole lot more freedom.
Whatever it is, let it be yours.
Because your life isn’t a shopping list, your identity isn’t a status symbol, and your purpose isn’t to become an endlessly upgraded version of yourself.
You’re here to experience, explore, create, love, and discover what makes you wonderfully, unmistakably alive.
Less proving. More playing.
Less performing. More living.
Go on, then. Be a little Freek.
The world has enough people following the script. It’s time to write your own.
