Almost 54 years on this planet and I’m STILL trying to figure out what the heck my hair wants. 😂
I’ve bought the expensive products. Tried the fancy conditioners. Experimented with enough bottles and potions to stock a small beauty supply store.
And here’s what I’ve discovered: my hair doesn’t want another $40 bottle of promises. It wants plants.
Lately, I’ve been diving into the world of botanical oils — some I’ve never even heard of — including oils used in ancient beauty rituals long before celebrity stylists, salon appointments, and the modern beauty industry existed.
Think ancient goddesses nourishing their hair with the gifts of nature. No ten-step haircare routine. No complicated product cocktail. Just plants doing their thing.
And honestly? My hair is responding.
My Current Hair Crushes:
🌿 Tamanu Oil — A beautiful, rich botanical oil that has become one of my favorites for dry, thirsty hair.
✨ Squalane Oil — Lightweight, silky and absolutely dreamy for softening hair without weighing it down.
🌳 Baobab Oil — Extracted from the seeds of Africa’s legendary tree. A lovely option for dry hair that needs softness and conditioning.
🌺 Abyssinian Oil — A lesser-known botanical gem with a beautiful lightweight feel. Great for adding slip, shine and softness.
🌱 Amla Oil — An ancient Ayurvedic haircare favorite traditionally used in Indian beauty rituals.
What I’m learning is that beautiful hair isn’t necessarily about adding more products. It’s about understanding what your hair needs and giving it ingredients that nourish, condition and protect it.
My little experiment? Fewer synthetic cocktails. More botanical goodness. More listening to nature.
And the best part? Many of these oils are surprisingly affordable and can be used on your skin, too!
Maybe the secret wasn’t hiding in the beauty aisle after all.
Maybe it was growing on a tree somewhere. 🌳
Stay curious. Stay natural. Stay a little freaky.
